... do you know why that is so? I had some experience with an overdrive unit that was available for Land Rovers, a much smaller application. The Fairy overdrive had two poistions - in and out. The trans had no "granny" gear, so starting up in the "in" position was too much clutch.
Those axles really want that overdrive, even around town. Can't imagine what it was like with the original 251 flathead - must have had a top speed of like 40 mph.
