It may be that your lense is of poor quality and out of focus or it could be your own vision. Do you wear reading glasses? If you do you should get a magnifier lense, maybe 2X?

I have stick welded my whole adult life and after my reading sight started going south I had a very difficult time laying a consistant puddle.
