Jim, note in the picture the mounting location. This was the 318 in my Bumblebee.
The Helitool 318 kit, rear engine mounts utilize the mounting boss'es on the Hydraulic bell housing and also the cast mounts on the frame. These two points, the bell house mounts and the frame mounts, Locate the engine fore/aft. It can not be located wrong. Based on this exact mounting location, The Intermediate Propeller shaft will fit between the transmission and T Case using a stock transmission and/or NP 435. My transmission was the NP-435, shaft fit right in place.

Since your shaft does not fit, and your engine is located fore/aft by the bell house/frame mounts....something is wrong...or changed. Is it possible you are not using a NP-435. There is another transmission, I believe its a NP-4530, 4 speed that is a lot longer. Could you have that transmission ? It will fit the bolt pattern on the Bell House and the input is correct. All this assumes your T Case is in the stock location, not moved ?

Now please look at the next picture I post for some more thoughts.

Paul
