The LA 318's were all the same block, same length. You probably have a longer water pump which needs to be changed to a short shaft one.
You may need to shorten your output shaft if you used the NP435. Measure the difference in the length of the stock and the NP435 tranny input shafts to determine any difference in length. Do you have the manual that came with the kit, if not go to Rays website and read up.
