Rob Thats 1/4x18npt--national pipe thread the one that you bought i belive is 1/8npt I thought the same as you I measured the old one at 1/2 inch I think pipe thread must be measured differant. When I got the new ECHTS6460 I measured it at 1/2 inch and I theeaded it into the hole in the block and it works fine. My truck is a 1967 WM300 with 251
