... the vendor did in fact have the seals Glen indicated. They look just exactly like the ones I need, but the ID was off by about 0.450". Just won't fit, no ifs ands or buts. And we were so close....
Asked if the vendor would look around for one that did fit, and got referred to White Owl. They finally came up with something that appears that it will do the job - different design, but correct dimensions.
I maintain my theory that Rockwell changed the drum/spindle interface at least once and maybe more than once during the 1960s/1970s.
After a week of this, I know more about obsolete seals than I ever wanted to. I carry a micrometer with me everywhere I go. For now, I just need to get this thing put back together - it will work perfectly if these seals are the dimensions advertised. Will report results when the goods arrive next week.
