I would never do that to a reputable garage, but Midas has lot of bad karma coming to them. I literally stood back and listened while they tried to scam a woman friend of mine some years ago. All she needed was some new brake shoes on her old Dart (Dodge content!) but they told her all the hoses were bad, the MC was bad, the drums needed turning, $etc$. I think they were up to about $500 in 1990 dollars at that point. The clincher was when they said, acting very concerned, that if they so much as touched it, they couldn't let it leave the shop without doing all the work that they'd listed because they would be responsible when her brakes blew out and she crashed. They really piled it on, and she was thoroughly worried by the time I managed to drag her reluctantly out of there. They absolutely did not want to take that car off the hoist. They really knew how to scare and manipulate a naive woman, and I'm sure they succeeded at it most of the time. I think if they'd stopped at around $300 she would have paid it, but she simply did not have the kind of money they were wanting. She took it to another shop that just replaced the shoes and it was fine. Her husband ended up with it later when they split up, and that's the car that he drove for years as a "slat 5". Never did have any brake trouble with it. Since then, I consider Midas to be a den of thieves to whom no rules of fair dealing apply.
