I made a few rookie mistakes in assembling my 230 engine the first is not priming the oil pump before installing. The second is not securing the distributor before re-installing the primed oil pump. I read the manual on installing these items and it requires knowing top dead center on #1 cylinder. Can you do this with knowing #6 which you can do by pulling the plug and using a depth guage to the top of the piston. I was told that the plug locations for #1 plug is 9:00 on the distributor and #6 is 3:00. Is that right? When popping the starter to find TDC on #1 I seems to be a guess at best when the piston is at top And I am not clear on the markings on the pully(rusted pretty badly). Also if This is true about the locations of #1 and #6 on the dist. Then I truely am lost because my wires at this point do not jive with this
