I routinely cut shims for the alingment of different machinery. It can be purchased in various size rolls of most thicknesses you need. Have you also tried Chelsea for shims to see what they sell?
Have you determined what size shim you need? How about using a few sets of feeler gauges under the PTO to get you in the ballpark for backlash, and then either cutting or purchasing your shim?
