Think of a heat pump with the coils in the well

Guys use farm ponds as a heat sink for a heat pump system. Even when the pond freezes over, the ice cold water has lots more energy to give than air in the negative range. Are they called heat wells? Darn good way to use a heat pump.

How about sprinklers on the roof? You would gain the evaporative cooling without raising the humidity inside.... except...

Only this week, I rigged up a dry bulb/wet bulb system. You need two thermometer that match. Make a tight fitting sock for one, and put the end of the sock into a dish of water. Evaporation will cool that thermometer. The dryer the air, the cooler. Compare the two temp readings, and check with a chart to tell precisely the humidity. What I learnt was that heating the same air lowers humidity, at noon. Later, as the same air cools the humidity goes back up. No wonder anymore as to why I check the thermometer, see that it has dropped 18 degrees, yet it seems more uncomfortable. The humnidity goes up faster than the temp goes down!

So, unless the coils of cool water condense a bunch of water on the out side, or in my sprinkler suggestion the roof will drip condensation, needing to be drained out side before it evaporates again. That would be de-humidifying, which will also make you more comfortable.

Evaporative cooling just doesn't work at 90% humidity.
