In my new line of work, I work on all sorts of old iron for my boss as he has quite the collection. One day, He has me working on a Farmall F-20 Tractor, the next day a Hit-and-miss engine, then some other time a Ford Model T.

Over the last week, he has put me to work on a mid 30's Farmall F-20 Tractor. He had this tractor sitting outside uncovered For several years, Since this tractor ran great when parked (yea, how many times have we heard that line before...) and is complete and the engine rolls over, he wanted me to get it to fire up. We pull it up by the shop, and we find that the magnito was bad, and would not spark even after I clean the points.....

Well people who work on Magnito s these days are few and far between, and are of a generation that is dying out. Well, A freind of mine knows a guy who works on them and he is local. Since I am working with more old iron now than e ver, I am trying to learn all these skills and keep it going for more generations to come. I will be turning 30 soon, and Lord willing, should have many years left to go....

Well, I take the tractor mag up to the guys place, and I tell him whats wrong with it. I also ask him, if sometime he could teach me how to work on them to service them and recharge the magnets etc on them. Al, the guy I took the Mag to is over 80 years old, and when I made mention I wanted to learn this lost and dying art of mag repair to keep going for more generations, he just lit up like a Christmas tree!.

So...he walked me thru how to take the mag apart, to check the magnets and even a quick easy way to re-magnatize them! So...After 2 hours, I left there with a perfectly functional magnito, and knowledge of a skill that few these days know, a homemade magnito recharging tool and..and new freind.

I know I was rambling..sorry, but Getting deeper and deeper in this old iron technology and messing with it, is awesome!
God Bless and have a great weekend all!
