I had the same problem with mine and I found myself "chasing" the adjustment. What I finally did is adjust it as you have where it binds up SLIGHTLY. I drove the truck around my block SLOWLY while working the steering back and forth through the binding area {weaving}. After a few miles, it was steering freely and I had worked the play and shimmy out of the system.YMMV
