That is interesting. I was troubleshooting my WC4 VR issue this past weekend and wanted to repolarize the gen. I looked all through my WC4 TM and nowhere in the VR or Gen section did it make note of how to polarize the gen. I then went to my WWII WC 3/4 Ton TM and I found a note on polarizing the gen. It said to run a jumper ARM to Bat on the VR, but nowhere did it say to ground the gen field term. Seemed to work for me. All the WWII dodges also ran autolite VR's. I would be interesting to find out why the autolite book says to ground the field term on the generator.
