CURRENT above 10 amps @24 volts or 20 amps @12 volts becomes wasted energy.

Current flow is maximized by having the area of the accumulating electrode rqual in surface area to the object being cleaned.
Arc gouging rods lack sufficient surface ares to be worth a damn for much beyond a 1" wrench.

If you use an automatic battery charger you will need to put a battery in paralell with the charger to make it function. You then controll current via surface area exposure of the accumulating electrode.

Dave will be forced by the DodgeGods to post a picture of his tank perforating and dribbling down his pantleg, or his truck will be forever cursed with starter problems.
