The last line is actually my own. I've not had troubles with Thermoquads myself, but then I've only owned one and it was just fine though a bit piggish on the fuel consumption in the OEM configuration. I have however owned more than a few AFBs and am rather happy with them. I suspect Thermoquads may be a bit like the Quadrajet, as in, easy to find fault with one when not in top shape/tune. But as I understand it from some very knowledgable people, the Quadrajet is actually a very fine carburetor when setup correctly, *perhaps* the Thermoquad is too.
