But other than that, modern oils are lo-oo-0-oaded with antioxidants, enough to run at 300 degrees for 10,000 miles. I don't think 500 miles in two years is terminal for these oils.
Best advice I ever heard is to give it a taste test. Old oil gets as bitter as brake fluid. New oil is undistinguishable from Crisco. No taste, just an oily feel on the tongue. The acids in the rancid oil dissolve bearings, so change it before then.
Every couple years sounds good to me, whether it need it or not. That is NOT what oil salesmen will tell you.
