Interesting you reference 1968. I was a bit occupied on the far side of the globe that year and 69 as well, but it didn't take long upon returning to realize there had been a near complete societal change while I was gone.
Do you pin to 68 because of the complete takeover of US public education by spineless bazards who hid from the Draft, LBJ's Great Society, or the pill bringing about a society devoid of responsibility?
