Sticky Transfer Case?

Putting the '63 Town Panel back together, I notice I can't shift the transfer case into neutral.

No engine in it at the moment, so I'm limited.

Haven't changed lube; figured that might help the trans was dirty but had lube. Maybe a light tapping on the shifter shaft while I rock it back and forth.

Any thoughts? I'd hate to get too frisky w the Cast lever...
