Getting a glove caught on a winch cable could pull your whole arm into the drum. You could loose your life, or worse.

I would rather take my chances getting a stray wire in my flesh with the comfort knowing that I may be able to tear away and save myself.

Same reason you never wear gloves in a machine shop..
