NP203 Transfer Case Help

Hi, hope you guys/gals can help with a question (or at least point me in the right direction). I am having problems with my NP203 transfer case (clunking, rattling) and would like some advice from someone with experience. The transfer case demonstrates the classic "clunk" while moving from foward to reverse or reverse to foward. However, there is also a dull, clunk-clunk as the truck drives along under power. It is most noticeable from a dead stop as the truck accerlates to
cruising speed. The clunk-clunk increases in frequency with speed. Also, the clunk-clunk is very noticeable as the truck coasts to a stop. Furthermore, the transfer case whines and emits a "spinning", "grinding" sound under full throttle, either at speed or from a stop.

Do you have any experience with these symptoms? I suspect a loose chain or differential unit going bad. I would like to know if I should pursue a rebuild or find a new (or at least used) transfer case.

Thanks for your help,
