Hook up to transfer

I am installing a 327 smallblock with a automatic
transmission.I have 3 to 4 inches to play with,what
I had hoped to do is to mount the transmission directly
to the transfer but I am haveing trouble finding a
universal joint that will match the two up. Anyone
ever done this?
