Oil flow to the bypass filter is controlled by the oil pressure relief valve (TM 9-1840A page 16) then dumps back into the low pressure(return) oil galley.The filter media in the bypass element will filter the oil finer then your pleated paper spin on filters( so I've read) so I don't know why you would want to change the stock system.Besides the pressure relief is only open at pressures above 46psi (oil temp at 135degrees) . Don't know about your engine but there aren't alot of 230s out there running above 46psi (constant) so no matter what kind of oil filter you use theres not a heck of alot of oil going through it.Heck just change your oil(non-detergent) more often and leave the stock system alone(Besides its a good conversation piece at car ralleys).
