I talked to Dana in Idaho. He has a LOT (40-50) of BRAND NEW gama Goat motors: 3-53 Detroit diesels with aluminum blocks, SAE#3 bellhousings; I think he has some Spicer 3053A 5spds, 0.85:1 5th gear. The motors are 102Hp @ 2800, 205 ft-lbs of torque. The price is fantastic: $1400!. But the downsides: they still weigh 900 lbs, and are so tall that you need to lift the front end 5.5", I think with a combo of block and springs. Obviously the rear will need some evening out too. Front blocks are dicey. My Herc. has 2" solid billet steel blocks with dowel pins for the axle side and a hole for the spring bolt. I welded them too the axle pads so it's impossible for them to move. I'd recommend the same for the Detroits. The other thing is that buying a motor is just the start of a conversion, as many of us know. I'd estimate $2-3000 additional costs unless you already have a heap of stuff, or are really good at scrounging. The price does sound interesting. Since a M715 has so much room, I wonder...? My Perkins 4.236 out of my Landcruiser FJ45 pickup is looking for a home since the frame is rusted through and I'm pulling the NP540 out for my PW/Hercules conversion. That size Perkins would work fine in a M37: 80HP @ 2800, 193 ft-lb @1400. Nat. aspirated. If someone turboed it, it'd be 110 HP and 240 ft-lb.
