First you need a differential kit which was available from Adirondack Dodge a few years back for about 20 bucks I believe. Vintage probably has them as well. Reider Racing will probably be the cheapest for the Lock Right itself, if you don't already have it. The diff kit has new pins, spiders(not used), thrust washers and side gears. You must remove the bearing on the cap side of the carrier. If you are lucky, you may be able to get at the inner end of all three pins with a pry bar to get them started out of the case. You will probably destroy the bearing getting it off, but I assume you intend to use new bearings anyway. If you have not begun dismantling your third member yet, be sure to mark the caps and adjuster nuts for the side they came from and index the adjuster nut to its respective cap with scribe marks and note how many threads are showing on each. This will get you close on the lash when you reassemble the carrier, even with new bearings. Any way, if you can pry the pins out, you can then grab them with vise grips and pull them the remainder of the way out. You may have to center punch the pins and drill them out. Mark the cap and case with a scribe. Heat the case where the cap screws in, not red just warm to slightly expand the case to ease removal of the cap. The cap can be removed with a punch, but a three pronged tool made from pipe of the appropriate diameter to match the oil holes in the cap is better. Once the cap is out, remove the pinion pins and spiders and side gears. Power Wagon Advertiser once had a reprint of the relevant section of a Dodge service manual. Hope this helps. If you change the ring and pinion to 4.89's, then the index marks on the adjuster nuts have no relevance for the new gear set. You need to pattern it.
