I bought my first one (W100) for $1500 in fairly good running
condition about four years ago. I had to immediately fix the gas tank
(had water in it) but otherwise driveable. I also got an extra
transmission and three extra wheels with it. The second
one I bought for $800 a little over a year ago was a W200 and had fairly
extensive rust in the rear quarter panel area. The rear doors were
badly dented and rusted and the rear cargo area was
full of garbage and pack rat nests. The passenger door
latching mechanism was missing and also the sheetmetal
covering the transmission hump. It was driveable and
I drove it home (no battery) and have driven it a couple
of times since. Also the registration had expired.
I know that expired registration can be quite spendy to
bring up to date in some states. From my experience,
if it is going to cost someone a lot of money to make
the truck roadworthy, it should sell for $1000 or less.
To me the main consideration should be finding someone
who will give the truck a good home and restore it and
then giving them a fairly good deal on the original purchase
so they will have some money left to delve into the project.
Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth. You can
see both trucks in near the condition I bought them in
on Wade VanBuskirk's web site for comparison purposes.
