1/2 ton PTO setup

Was wondering if anyone had experience with setting up the 1/2 ton PTO
used with the factory winch setup.

Just bought a used PTO and winch unit cut off directly from another 1/2 ton junked
truck and have recently installed on my truck.

I didn't tear the PTO apart before install, just cleaned it up well.

The problem I have is a low growling noise comming from unit when I let out the
clutch, even with the transmission in neutral. When I push in the clutch, noises go
away.

Not being overly familiar with a pto unit, I'll assume that this PTO unit is constantly
in motion with the original transmission when the clutch is released. So, there are
some bearings constantly in use in this PTO unit. As I didn't have any noises like this before
installing the PTO, I have to assume its bearings within PTO, and not tranny( which was
rebuilt 3 years ago) are the culprit.

Looking at the TM, looks like the most probable problem
bearing is the idler roller cage bearing, which must always be used while the
truck transmission is used. Other than that, there are 2 tapered roller bearings on the PTO drive
shaft.

Am I on the right track?

Does anyone know the correct part numbers for each of these bearings so that I may be able
to accuire locally? My TM lists the manufacturer and Part number for every other bearing
in the truck but not any of the PTO units bearings.

Another thought I had was possible shims or gaskets. As I didn't use
any gasket or shims other than form-a-gasket, is there a posssible
over-tight condition on the mating gears/shafts/bearings, causing this
noise? Is there some spec stating this shim/gasket
thickness?

Anyone with insight/experience on this please respond.
