I LIKE a 3-wire alt. Uses battery voltage to regulate.

The red wire form the 3-wire pig tail goes as close to the battery as possible, so the internal regulator makes volts as needed at the battery.

I'm thinking , that it's the fuse on the light switch. Maybe blown by a short/bare wire in the brake light circuit.

But then, a 12v system uses only 1/2 the amps as a 6v system. That is why the world went to 12v. So the old 6v fuse should have been adequate. Next guess is under-dash wiring, since I assume your alt output is hooked through the ammeter,to get that 15v to the battery. So, the light witch gets it feed from the ammeter. That wire chewed by rats, or the two-legged rat ;) broke that wire when he was under the dash hooking in the alt wiring?
