While you are under the dash troubleshooting, pay close attention to the fuse holder on the light switch.

I had a light switch where the socket and fuse holder was becomming slightly rusty. This created enough resistance to overheat the fuse. The fusible link within the fuse would never burn out, but the fuse would get so hot that the solder would melt between the cap and the fusible link at one end of the fuse.

The link would be intact, and the fuse would look perfectly fine, but it would no longer transmit current.

I went through about a half dozen fuses as this problem repeated itself. It usually happened during the winter, with all the lights and heater on, driving down the road after dark. Poof. No lights and here I am moving at 50 miles per hour.

I finially figured out what the problem was when I found a fuse that still had a drop of solder running down the outside of the glass. I cleaned up the fuse socket and fuse holder and have had no problems since.
