Old timer's way
pull the plugs, disconnect coil wire
crank it over and one hole at a time put
your thumb on the spark plug hole
if while cranking you can hold your thumb on
the hole the compression is low
then repeat only put oil down the hole before
you crank
if there is a big diff in the pressure trying
to get your thumb off then it is the rings
if no diff then it is a valve problem or you
have no rings left on the pistons or no pistons left in the cylinders
