Only problem with putting motors at each wheel is unsprung weight and keeping them all going the same speed. You'd want the motors attached to the frame but then you need an independent suspension at each wheel.
I'd probably look at putting two motors in place of the transfer case, one driving the front axle, one driving the rear. Only problem there is you lose the low gear in the transfer case, but the right two speed transmissions could fix that.
