Putting the proportioning valve where you did is convenient for you. Just do not get pulled over and let a cop see that. Most states mandate that any adjustable proportioning valve must not be accessible to the driver or passenger in the vehicle. It must be located such that it can only be accessed when the vehicle is stopped.
