So far in this discussion we've heard that you have to torque the bolts very carefully, that two of them broke with fatigue cracks, and that driving at highway speeds may cause too much vibration. On the off-road site somebody linked to, in a discussion of broken bead-lock bolts, the conclusion was the bolts break when you hit the rims on rocks, and the best advice seemed to be "take a lot of extra bolts". All of this adds up to "way too fussy and fragile".

I've never heard of bolts breaking on regular old combat rims. It sounds to me like some outfit decided to "improve" on a known-good design and made a mess of it in the process.
