The shear pin should be showing just a bit on each side, a zerk ought to be at right angle to the pin.

The pto shaft slip joint has a collar locked on with a set screw. The collar is there to prevent the u-joint from coming off of the winch shaft if the pin shears. You DON'T want the shaft to come off completely, and whip around at 1000 rpms. So make sure that lock collar allows about an inch of slip*, no more. And the lock collar's set screw gets safety wired too.

* anybody got a manual for the official position of the collar?
