Wouldn't hurt to have the axle crack tested while you have it out. Most engineering shops should be able to do it for you. It would not be good to get it all together and have the end of the axle fall apart. Also check the spline end especially between where the wear marks from the side gears stop and the end of the spline. As mentioned in an earlier post, a lot of these get a bit twisted here.
