Eric, thanks for your reply. Definitely more food for thought. Thanks for explaing what the inspection plate is for. I tried to google "gear driven cable winder" and various similar wordings, but found nothing specific. Are you saying the inspection plate is removed and some kind of motorized gear drive is inserted there to wind up the cable ? Would that be the hydrauliic drive you mention ? As far as the drive shafts, all 4 were bolted to 4 of the winches, so I assumed they were driven by a pto connected to the drive shaft. Any additional comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
