I've camped at the fairgrounds the four or five times that I've gone. Here are my thoughts for any first time campers.

You will see at least one good storm with strong winds and rain. Thunder & lightning are a given and possible Tornado and hail won't be unheard of.

So, if your tent does not like lots of wind, you will want to be blocked by something. Normally during the day when I am out and about, I will drop my tent and cover it with a tarp to keep it close to the ground and dry.

On the opposite of rain and wind, it can get hot, so having a breeze makes it a little more manageable.

We can't have everything though.

If you don't mind animal smells and hay, there are some livestock barns that many will camp out in. Some use a tent and others just sleep on the ground/hay/mulch mix.

In 2007, I went this route and to be honest, the week was much more enjoyable as I didn't have to worry about the weather and such.

Here are some pic's of the general campground area. And it's more of a first come - first served kind of thing.
