Axles

You are correct. I think given the metallurgy of yesteryear, a stock axle front or rear is likely weaker than a D44. Combine that with a 16 spline count you likely have a D44 with 16 splines. There is no doubt the stock wheels and combat wheels on a WC or PW are what make one aspect of the truck and give it a killer look, but the axle shaft are the Achillles of these trucks. The is no comparison to a king pin Dana 60.
