Or it was the 3% who were so disgusted with Junior that they would have voted for anybody who didn't have an "(R)" next to his name on the ballot. That election was the Democrats' to lose, and for once, they didn't lose it. Of course Obama, Pelosi, and Clinton took that to mean that we all love everything about them and everything they want to do, but that's how it is with the colossal egos that it takes to get to that level of politics.
What these people want more than anything else is to get re-elected (look at Arlen Specter -- he changed parties just so he could keep his seat), which means that they will do what the pollsters tell them that their constituents want. There's nothing wrong with Democrats so long as they vote the right way, and a few of them sometimes do.
