So far I have looked for these in one old boneyard in my area where they had a few winches too. I am thinking that is the most likely place to find them, since apparently no one is making this size "new". If I don't find one by the time next winter I assemble the winch, I will do like Clint implies and get a modern Esmet 1/2" clamp, but do the Flemish Eye cable loop which adds a little diameter. There are some interesting things on line about how to do that.
One old 7/16" clamp of the sought after "monkey fist" type the pictures on other threads here show, sold on E-bay a few years ago; if I recall for some ridiculous price of well over $100!
