Rich my manual also states 3 pints. Before I drained the transfer case I checkrd the leval and it was about 2 inches below the filler hole. I put new seals in then put in 3 pints of 140 gear lube it was still below the hole so I put in another pint its still below the hole but not so far I can can stick my finger in the fill hole and touch the fluid. So i think I will be ok. And my Dodge truck manual says to use 140 gear lube for above 90 degree tempature and I only drive my 67 in the summer months so I think it will be ok.
