Chrysler Van Engine Serial number to VIN number?

Hey guys,

My sister's caravan engine blew up a week ago. We located her (and purchased) an engine for it at a local junkyard and it is now being installed. We have the VIN number from the van that the engine was supposed to have come from (a 12,000 mile, 2007 model wreck).

We would like to verify that the engine is the original engine for the van it came from. Our local, small Dodge dealer wasn't able to help. Are there databases, or other resources that would help make this match? Where do we look? Who do we ask?
