You are right about the lure of internet shopping. By rights, and according to my own complaint, I should have gone into the local dealer and paid the $125, plus tax. This would truly be supporting the local economy. And, if everyone would do that, it would be great. But the present economic situation dictates that we will all ultimately try to save some money whenever we can.
Another example: I just lost a very high end custom home that any other year would have been in the bag, to a manufacturer of kit homes in Mass. This company is providing a post and beam kit. The timbers are Doug Fir, grown on the West coast, shipped to Mass. for milling and then shipped back to Idaho along with the other components. How can they do this and make money, while supposedly saving the customer money?
Yes, wouldn't it be cool if Dodge would build a brand new Power Wagon, slightly larger is scale for us taller, older guys, and the same gauge metal in the body. Of course the price would be out of this world.
