Over the passed 6 months I've replaced an alternator and a starter on my drivers.

Starter had wore out brushes after 125,000 miles. Accectable as I do a lot of short trips. Got a rebuilt one and installed it and tried to satrt it up and wouldn't. After pulling it back out and looking at it found out the main bolt that hold the solenoid on and carries the juice was stripped out. Took it back and had them test the the next "rebuilt one". When they fired it over the bearing sounded like it was grinding sand so got another off the shelf. It was fine.(Napa)

Alt. went out on the Dodge and and went to a DIFFERENT supplier and had them test it BEFORE I left. 1st one bad bearing, next 2 showed weak charge. Finally the 4th one (the last one they had) was okay.(Pep Boys)

I thought I'd better share this to save others the hassle and wasted time as this seems to becoming a common thing now. I guess rebuilt means cleaned and reboxed? Test them BEFORE you leave the store.

Dad just got a bad starter from Advance so that's 3 different parts stores so it isn't an issolated thing.
