Mount the tailgate temporarily to make sure the wood is not too long for the tailgate to operate freely. Measure the bed diagonally to make sure it is square on the frame. Remeber the srews that secure the wood to the header panel. Recess the center tailgate hinge. Since yours is a first series bed, remember the skid stip holes are staggered to distribute the weight on the "hat cahannel" crossmembers, unlike the second and third series beds that mount to the same edge of each crossmember. If you are going for a clear finish, I recommend penetrating the wood first with something like Watco Oil to bring out the grain and fill the pores and then sealing the surface with urethane or whatever you decide.
