Cut a hole (it's rectangular) above the fuel tank sender and install a metal plate like was done at the factory. I can email you the info. (Thanks goes to Junior!) You may want to chisel a rabet in the wood for the edges of the metal so that it is flush with the top of the board.

Sap wood (even white oak) does not hold up or weather very well. If your boards have any sap wood....... Your decision.

Drill the 6 mounting holes and countersink for the big flat washers. The flats distribute the load and keep the two outside boards from cracking. When drilling the holes, clamp a waste board on the undersige to help prevent tearout when the bit exits your floor board.

Finish top, bottom, sides and ends with several coats the finish of your choice. This will help keep the wood from soaking up water. Use a thinned first coat to prime and seal the wood.
