Based on your post i take it your using the frame # and not the cab plate but if you have the cab plate and its not fixed in place try reading from the back side i know its dumb but effective if your on the frame apply some heat and take a crayon or paint stick or tire chalk and try melting it in place of the # lifting even the most obscure details there also are forensic articles detailing how to lift serial # after filing or grinding has taken place
