Dave, Pull the hot lead off the brake light switch that runs to the back of the truck and then press the brake pedal and see it the lights stil dim (I presume you me the headlights when you say lights) If so, your hot lead to the rear brake lights is grounded out and touching metal. If not, then maybe a bad brake light switch. It would not be the hot feed to the brake light switch. If it was, the wire to the brake light switch would melt and burn, or if your line is fused, the fuse would blow any time you apply the brakes (with or without the brake wire to the back connected.)
