OT; Doggie Problem, Need Suggestions

Hoku is a 9 month neutered male Labrador mix pup that I rescued from the shelter, to be a buddy for Eahka. He cant catch a Ball ! I can throw the ball, he will chase it down and immediately bring it back to me. But that is where it ends.

I get quite close (2 to 3 feet), get him all excited with fake tosses, his head follows the ball in my hand. Then when I do a easy gentle toss, he closes his eyes and lets it boink him on the nose. I pick up the ball and its a repeat, he closes his eyes when I toss it, ever so easy. The Ball is a Kong Ball with the holes in each end. I stick my finger in the hole so I can control it directly into his mouth. When I do this, he does not close his eyes, but waits till the ball touches his nose, then he slowly opens his mouth. LOL ! Toss him a dog biscuit and he closes his eyes. Arrrg ! I work with him catching a ball each afternoon and evening, nothing has worked.

I have never had a dog that could not catch a ball. Eahka, my Shepherd is going nuts wanting his turn. Eahka never misses the ball no matter how its thrown. Any suggestions from you Lab Owners ?
