The desoto engines start with S.
Otherwise I would guess you have a reman engine with an aftermarket stamp, as all the factory Chrysler stuff I have looked at starts with a letter.
The * 7I2304 is odd though, as that is typically what Chrysler numbers look like, the I is a 1, and the * is a common item, it looks like a star right?
