I wonder if the tractor is geared extra low. Speed isn't really an issue, but it must have taken a lot of pull to get up the east side of Lookout Pass with 675,000 lbs. That's a 6% grade for the last mile or two, which is steep for an interstate freeway. Maybe that's what the dump truck in the rear was for -- a helper engine on the steep upgrades and an extra jake brake coming down. That would also help with the fact that it would be hard to get enough weight on the driving wheels of the tractor. Just holding in place on a 6% grade would take 40,000 lbs of traction. Even with 8 driving wheels, that's 5000 lbs per wheel, which seems to me to be asking a lot of the tires even on dry pavement. It would really stink to get part way up Lookout, loose traction, and start sliding back down.
